Ensor, Henry Thomas

ENSOR, Henry Thomas (1842–1934) was born at Parramatta, NSW, the eldest son of Thomas Ensor, a publican, and Mary Anne Cassin. Thomas and his brothers migrated to Australia where Thomas was licensed for various hotels at Parramatta before he was insolvent in 1849. With his family he moved to Moreton Bay where Henry was apprenticed to an unidentified builder at Ipswich. He may have assisted with the construction for his father of an American Bowling Alley at Toowoomba in 1861 before before being employed as an overseer at Jimbour where he was closely involved with the erection of SUTER & VOYSEY’s Jimbour House, with most materials sourced locally. In 1882 Ensor possibly designed the buildings for a major sawmill at Bunya for Thomas McIlwraith and others with the plant and equipment designed by the engineers CLARK & FAUSET.
