Douglas & Tills
DOUGLAS & TILLS was a short-lived partnership of HT DOUGLAS and RA TILLS, 1884-85, as joiners, builders and contractors of Cairns, offering plans, specifications and estimates on the shortest notice “with quantities if required”. For a visit to Cairns by Governor Musgrave the partnership erected a Triumphal Arch which was well received but subsequently criticised as circumventing rules against Douglas as a member of the Divisional Board undertaking work for the Board by contracting instead a member of their staff. When competitive designs for a proposed town hall were mislaid, Douglas & Tills prepared a design but instead a design by CN GARDINER, engineer to the Divisional Board was preferred.
