Coutts & Hamilton
COUTTS & HAMILTON was a Brisbane practice formed in January 1888, when Brisbane architect Thomas COUTTS entered partnership with Maryborough engineer and surveyor, GC HAMILTON, to oversee the erection at Maryborough of Coutts’ prize-winning design for an Exhibition Building for the Wide Bay & Burnett Pastoral & Agricultural Society and other work. Despite changes to reduce the cost, the large vaulted corrugated iron sheeted pavilion was one of the most distinctive exhibition pavilions built in Queensland. When the partnership ended in October 1889, both parties practised separately in Brisbane with Coutts later entering partnership in 1890-1 with AG STOMBUCO as STOMBUCO COUTTS.
