Burke, David

BURKE, David designed the Dalby Roman Catholic Church in 1866, presumably a replacement for a building by DW RYAN which was damaged by a storm in January 1866 during construction. The brick Gothic structure was well regarded when it was completed, and Burke was commissioned for a wooden building to serve as the Town Hall. During construction it was criticised by the Council, condemned by WC WAKELING and demolished. The Council refused to pay Burke’s commission and called for a fresh design. Apparently, Burke left the district. He has not been identified.
