Booth, Joseph James

BOOTH, Joseph James (c1827–1864) was born at Macclesfield, Cheshire, eldest son of John Booth, joiner-builder, and his wife Mary Bethell. At Prestbury, Cheshire he married Louisa Magnus in 1849. In 1851 he was listed as a builder’s foreman, and in 1861, a carpenter before he migrated in 1863 to Queensland with his family as passengers on the “Fiery Star”. When his daughter Miriam married in Brisbane in 1874, she was listed as daughter of the ‘late JJ Booth, architect of Brisbane’. Booth arrived at Brisbane in November 1863, but five months later, drowned in the Brisbane River. Where was he employed prior to this, is not known.
