Bond, Thomas Arthur

BOND, Thomas Arthur (c1865–1942) was born at Bishop’s Waltham, Hampshire, England, the second son of George Bond, an ironmonger and later a director of Perry Bros, Brisbane; and Charlotte Hoad. In his youth Bond like his father, was an outstanding athlete in rowing, running, cycling, athletics, sailing and swimming. By 1887, he was working in Brisbane as an accountant, and commission, land and estate agent. Bond called tenders in 1896 for material and labour for relocating buildings to Hendra, for conversion into a villa residence. He died at Brisbane. Bond was twice married, in 1889 at Brisbane, possibly bigamously to a twice-married divorcee, Leonora Harriet Mary McLean/Hayes whose second marriage may not have been finalised; and following an unsuccessful attempt in 1908 to have his first marriage annulled, in 1929 to Gladys Davis. His only son by his first marriage, George Arthur Cooper Bond (1894–1959), was a fraudster under various aliases.
