Blackmann & Parkes

BLACKMANN & PARKES was a Sydney partnership from 31st May 1880 of CHE BLACKMANN & Varney Parkes (1859–1935), former colleagues in the New South Wales Works Department. The first draftsman with the practice was the Berlin-trained architect, Ernest Weitzel (1854–1903) who was retrenched just prior to dissolution remained on 24th August 1885. Thereafter Blackmann continued the practice with Parkes and Weitzel each practising separately. Tenders were called for new premises for the Australian Mutual Provident Society in Brisbane in August 1884 and re-tendered in September. In October 1886, Blackmann entered partnership with John SULMAN.
