Backhouse & Taylor
BACKHOUSE & TAYLOR (1862–63) practised as architects in Brisbane from 26 September 1862 when Benjamin BACKHOUSE admitted Thomas TAYLOR as partner. The firm was short-lived, ending on 1 June 1863 with Taylor claiming to have received no credit for producing the design which in June 1862 had won a competition for the Ipswich Grammar School. Tenders were called three months before their partnership was formed but Taylor may well have drawn the winning design which was at least influenced by earlier work of Backhouse & Reynolds in Geelong.
