Backhouse & Lough

BACKHOUSE & LOUGH (1882–84) was a partnership of Benjamin BACKHOUSE and JJ LOUGH. After Backhouse retired in late 1883, Lough continued the firm under the same name until, after the death of his first wife, he sold his interest in November 1884 to the architect John SMEDLEY(1841-1903) who continued the practice under his name. Lough assisted for some time. The only known work of the firm in Queensland was new premises for the Bank of New South Wales in South Brisbane. Subsequently Lough moved to Brisbane.
