Arnold, Charles
ARNOLD, Charles (1842–1906) was born at Carhisson, Marburg, Germany, son of Jacob Arnold and Catherine Cabrach. When aged 18, he migrated to Australia, settling first at Roma where he married Bridget Flood in 1866. In anticipation of the opening of the railway in 1888 and increased spending on buildings he moved west to Charleville where he worked as a carpenter, builder and undertaker, his work included Post and Telegraph offices at Adavale and Auguthella and additions to the Court house, Cunnamulla. From 1895 Arnold also advertised as an architect. He was the owner and licensee of the School of Arts Hotel which he probably designed and a member of the inaugural municipal council. George BARBER was an employee before establishing his own business in 1892. Arnold died at Charleville in May 1906. His sons CW ARNOLD and Henry James were also carpenters.
